BIG UPDATE: Kelly Reilly Delves into Yellowstone Season 5 Evolution

Beth's Yellowstone Season 5 Evolution Explained By Kelly Reilly

Beth’s Yellowstone season 5 evolution is explained by star Kelly Reilly, who says that the character is both strong and fragile right now.

Kelly Reilly explains Beth’s evolution in Yellowstone season 5. The neo-Western drama series, created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, premiered on Paramount Network back in 2018. As the conflict over borders of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch between its owners, Broken Rock Indian Reservation, and Market Equities continues to grow, the show’s most recent episodes began exploring the world of politics, with John (Kevin Costner) becoming Governor of Montana. Beth is one of Yellowstone‘s most loyal and uncompromising central characters. In season 5, audiences got to see more of her life after marriage, as well as a gruesome fight with Summer (Piper Perabo) and an emerging battle with Jamie (Wes Bentley).

Reilly previously teased that Yellowstone season 5 would find Beth in a different place, and through its first few episodes, viewers got to see an evolution for her character. During a recent interview with IndieWire, the actor explains how Beth has changed, touching on her ability to open up more and her relationship with Summer after their altercation. Read Reilly’s comments regarding Beth’s development below:

“Beth is such a lone wolf. She’s not necessarily someone who I’ve seen allow herself to open up to other women in that way and it’s nice when she does. I like it. Also the interesting relationship with Summer [Piper Perabo], that’s sort of a blessing, after that fight. In a weird way now the territory is understood of where the power lies. When she’s outside the ranch Summer can do what she wants, but when she’s at the ranch, and when she’s in her home, Beth perceives it as territory and, oddly enough, entering into some conversation where there seems to be some sort of respect. Respect won almost from Beth with the fact that Summer fought her. The thing is that Beth sees everyone as an enemy until they’ve proven themselves.

“She’s not always in control, especially this season. It’s coming out. It’s purged. So it feels like she’s definitely at her strongest, but she’s also at her most fragile, which is interesting. For the badass Beth that we know there seems to be an inner turmoil that is rising and that is the price of knowing that she knows this fight is futile. I think she sees the end.

What’s Next For Beth In Yellowstone Season 5

Reilly, like most of the cast, reveals that she does not know what to expect from Yellowstone season 5 when it returns this summer. Longtime fans will likely want to see more of Beth and Rip’s relationship. Her dynamic with the show’s other women, especially Summer, could also be explored, since their fight proved to be a heavily discussed topic following episode 5, “Watch’em Ride Away.” Summer’s different lifestyle and questioning of the Duttons’ dinner led to a physical confrontation between her and Beth where a mutual understanding was eventually reached. By the Yellowstone mid-season finale, the two appeared to have built a friendlier banter.

The biggest thing that lies ahead for Beth in Yellowstone season 5 seems to be her upcoming battle with Jamie. After he called for John’s impeachment, Beth chose to address Jamie in person and threaten him to resign. He fought back by bringing up John’s awareness of past crimes committed, to which she promised a war would begin. With both Beth and Jamie seeking to eliminate the other, their rivalry may come to an end in future episodes, possibly with one of their deaths.

If Yellowstone concludes with season 5, the likelihood of there being one or more shocking moments is high, and viewers will not want to see many of its characters go, particularly Beth. She has always been loyal to John, and given how the last episode ended, it looks as though she will support her father throughout Jamie’s efforts. Those who have enjoyed Beth’s evolution so far and are looking forward to finding out where her character goes from here can be sure to tune in for the rest of season 5 when it returns this summer. With an ending to Yellowstone already worked out, it will be interesting to see how Beth continues to grow.
