“Yellowstone” Returns to Production in Spring of 2024

The Paramount Network’s hit show is set to resume production for the final episodes of its fifth and last season. As Hollywood bounces back from the dual writers’ and actors’ strikes that halted production for months, many shows are also getting back to work on new seasons to avoid disrupting spring network schedules.

Updates on the Future of “Yellowstone” and New Spin-Offs

In May, it was revealed that the popular Paramount Network series “Yellowstone,” created by Taylor Sheridan, will come to an end after its fifth season. The fifth season was split into two parts, with the first eight episodes airing between November 2022 and January 2023. The final episodes are set to debut in November 2024.

However, fans can still enjoy reruns of “Yellowstone” which are currently being aired on CBS. Additionally, Paramount has given the green light to two new spin-offs, the prequel “1944” and a contemporary series tentatively titled “2024.”

Kevin Costner Departs from “Yellowstone” to Focus on New Western Feature

In December, it was announced that Kevin Costner, the star of “Yellowstone”, would be leaving the series in Season 5. This was due to his desire to focus on a new two-part Western film, “Horizon”. The production of the movie would have interfered with his availability to film for “Yellowstone”. The first part of the film is slated for release in June 2024, with the second part following in August.

Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan, under his expansive overall deal with Paramount, has created a series of “Yellowstone” prequels. The latest, “1944”, joins the previously launched “1883” and “1923” on Paramount+. Each series explores the lives of the Duttons in a different titular year.

Details for “2024” are scarce, but it is anticipated to air following the end of “Yellowstone.”

A source with insider information on the series confirms that it will include an all-new cast and locations, with some crossover characters. Paramount had already declared that a new contemporary series set in the “Yellowstone” universe would debut later this year upon announcing that the flagship show would come to an end with Season 5. Additionally, it was reported that Matthew McConaughey was in negotiations to star in the series.
