Yellowstone Spinoffs 1944 and 2024 Officially Ordered at Paramount

You just can’t keep the Dutton family down: Paramount Network announced Thursday that two new Yellowstone spinoffs have been officially ordered with the working titles 1944 and 2024.

1944 is the latest in a run of prequels created by Yellowstone writer/director Taylor Sheridan. As for 2024, no plot details are currently available, other than it’s expected to begin following the conclusion of the flagship Yellowstone series. According to Variety, the contemporary spinoff will feature new cast members and locations, with crossover characters mixed in as well. As previously reported, Matthew McConaughey is set to saddle up for this modern-day rodeo.

“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions – and, we’re just getting started,” said President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy in a statement.  “On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”

Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. “Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders — an expanding town, an Indian reservation and vicious business rivalries,” reads its official description.

Its eight-episode first season concluded February 26, 2003, and that same month, it was renewed for Season 2. Both prequels were released on Paramount+.
