Julie Chrisley Snubs Latest Court Hearing—What’s Behind Her Shocking Decision?

Chrisley Knows Best

Chrisley Knows Best star Julie Chrisley is currently in prison. She is serving a seven-year federal prison sentence. This comes after Julie, her husband Todd, and their accountant Peter Tarantino were found guilty of defrauding $30 million in loans and committing tax evasion. Originally facing 19 years combined, Julie and Todd’s sentences are now reduced to 10 and 5 years, respectively.

During her time in prison, Julie is hopeful for some positive developments. Her daughter, Savannah Chrisley, has also been actively supporting her parents, filing appeals to prove their innocence. Julie’s resentencing hearing is scheduled for September 25. However, she has requested not to appear in court. Why is this the case? Let’s find out.

Chrisley Knows Best: Julie Chrisley Won’t Appear In Court!

Julie Chrisley lived a lavish life with her husband, Todd Chrisley, before their legal troubles began. However, since the news of Julie’s resentencing orders, the Chrisley Knows Best star has counted the days until her release from prison. She previously highlighted the poor conditions in prison and hoped for some relief from the court.

In a surprising turn of events, Julie has now requested not to appear at her resentencing hearing scheduled for September 25. According to WSB-TV, Julie’s attorney, Alex Little, filed court documents on Wednesday explaining why his client wants to avoid appearing in court.

He clarified that transporting Julie from her current prison at FMC Lexington in Kentucky to the courthouse, which is about 400 miles away, would involve a long and physically taxing journey. This journey might involve a stop in Oklahoma City or a long van ride while Julie is in shackles. The Chrisley Knows Best star’s attorney argues that such a trip would impose undue hardship on her and disrupt Julie’s current imprisonment situation.

Instead, Alex has requested to allow Julie to attend the meeting remotely via a video conference. “In this manner, Mrs. Chrisley can participate in the proceedings fully,” he concluded. It appears Julie is refusing to appear in court only to attend it remotely.

Chrisley Knows Best: Julie Will Walk Free Sooner Than Thought?

Julie was facing 19 years in prison after committing fraud and tax evasion along with her husband, Todd. However, after many appeals, the Chrisley Knows Best star might walk free sooner than one could imagine. Her appeals process indicates that her original sentence might have been too harsh.

While the court acknowledges that Julie committed fraud, it appears she might not involved as initially thought. Moreover, court documents reveal the district court didn’t specify the evidence used to hold Julie responsible for the crimes. Plus, it is missing from the record.

Julie will appear in court for resentencing in September 2024. This could potentially lead to an earlier release. In an interview, Attorney Camron Dowlatshahi noted that the court made a mistake during Julie’s sentencing. In 2022, the court held her accountable for the entire fraud without properly considering her level of involvement.

He believes that the resentencing will likely result in a shorter prison term for Julie.
